Our Story
A Reel of Small Decisions
2015
Origins
Lumière opened its doors on Greene Street in the fall of 2015, in a narrow cast-iron storefront that once housed a print shop. We kept the original pressed-tin ceiling. Everything else, we built around a single idea: a bistro that behaves like an atelier — small output, obsessive craft.
Chef Élodie Bernard
Born in Lyon, Chef Bernard trained under classical French masters before spending four years in Michelin-starred kitchens in Paris and New York. She founded Lumière at thirty-one, with a philosophy she still repeats to every new cook in the kitchen: "One ingredient earns its place on the plate. Everything else is in service of it."
Philosophy
We do not chase trends. We chase clarity — in technique, in plating, in the room itself. Mediterranean brightness meets French discipline: acid where you need it, fat where you need it, and nothing you don't.
Sourcing
Fish arrives daily from day-boat docks in Montauk. Produce comes from three farms within a two-hour drive, harvested to order. Our cheese is aged in-house in a climate-controlled cave beneath the dining room. We believe provenance is not a marketing word — it's a responsibility.
Lumière is not trying to be everywhere. It is trying to be exactly here, done exactly right.
